I know no sastric reference regarding this except that tulasi beads are
placed on the neck of an initiate by the guru at the time of initiation. As
in most cases where there is no clear sastric stipulation, nor that of an
acarya, nor there is a traditional precedent among recognized Vaisnavas, it
is best not to do it.
